Reporting

We are always willing to discuss a child’s progress in class with parents but the official reporting process is linked directly to the two sets of SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS which are completed by students in December and June.

Attainment, Improvement and Effort

There are three elements to our Reporting System.

  • Attainment

Attainment measures the extent to which a child has mastered the content of the curriculum set for the period in question. This is an objective measure and can be set against international standards for children studying the UK and Cambridge curriculum worldwide.

  • Improvement

Improvement shows the difference in a child’s personal performance, measured since the last Report. Obviously this is only possible to provide if the child was studying in TGBS at the time of the previous Summative Assessment in December or the previous June. Of course, it is hoped that every child has improved, in the sense that they will have learned new things and had time to review and correct their past mistakes. However, our measure of improvement is the extent to which their latest Assessment Grades are higher than their Grades in the previous Report. As such, this is also an objective measure.

  • Effort

Effort is a subjective measure, given by the teacher in each subject to reflect the extent to which they believe that your child is consistently giving of their best. It is obviously impossible for every child to get the top mark in an assessment (unless everyone gets the same score) but every child can work hard and give every task 100%.

At TGBS, this Effort Grade is a vital indicator because it shows us that students are in the best place to reach their potential. It shows that they are people who will give their best to every challenge, and so have the best chance of achieving success.

Teachers will prepare a written Report for parents twice a year.

This Report will contain three Grades one for Attainment, one for Improvement and one for Effort. Accompanying these Grades will be detail as to what your child has done well and in which areas they need to improve, if any.

These Reports will remain on each child’s academic record so that parents and teachers can refer back to them at the time of the next Report to see how much progress has been made and to be sure that any past weaknesses have been overcome.

Checking on Child Progress

Parents wishing to discuss any issue relating to their child’s progress can do so by contacting their child’s Mentor in the first instance. This can be done through the confidential channel provided to parents through their Parent login, provided when the first fee installment is paid.
